From their first moment as husband and wife, the Shapiro’s shared their love of the very best barbecue with their extended family and friends. Barbecue was the center of their wedding reception menu, and it was the perfect complement to their beautiful southern wedding. Obviously, that weekend didn’t feature their recipes, but it ignited a fire in Micah’s heart that would be realized in J’s Southern Smoke in just a few short years.
Following the birth of their first son, the Shapiros knew that they needed to start to build a legacy for their sons. In 2010, J’s Southern Smoke was established, and named after their sons. Word spread quickly around Atlanta about the incredible smoked meat and savory southern sides that J’s serves. Catering orders were plentiful, but still customers wanted more.
Sarah and Micah opened a physical location offering lunch in Cumming, Georgia. Local residents and businesses were grateful to have a new restaurant in the community. However, they did not expect the positive impact a barbecue restaurant would leave on the community. One of Sarah’s other passions is children, and she hates to see them suffer. Recognizing that she had a venue that was perfect for the event, she held a charity fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, in support of raising funds for children’s cancer research. Through one single event she was able to raise over $5,000 to contribute to this important organization.
In 2014, J’s decided to close it’s physical doors, in order to spend more time with their boys. Today J’s Southern Smoke is able to cater your favorite event, large or small!
